Hell Week: Seven Days to Be Your Best Self

Image
In Norway, there’s an interesting program called "Hell Week" which helps military officers receive the training they need to do their jobs. It allows each participant to get a taste for life, to understand the importance of simple things, and to ultimately transform the way they look at every single moment  in just seven days . In our mission to never stop looking for ways to achieve personal development, we at  Bright Side  decided to share the rules of Hell Week with you. Take a look — they might even help you develop some vital new skills. Get up at 5 am, and go to bed at 10 pm. Stay focused, committed, and good natured all week, and work hard. Stick to the plan. Be positive, decisive, energetic, and active. Forget about TV. And during working hours,  no social networking or social cal...

Read This When You’re Tired of Everything

We found an article which presents an unusual perspective for dealing with tiredness. We recommend that you take a deep breath, read it — and follow its advice. ’I know what it’s like to feel tired — and not just in the physical sense. The world that we live in is an exhausting place to be. It is wearing. It is thankless. It is endlessly trying and scarcely rewarding. You’re tired simply because you live in it. You’re tired of loving too much, caring too much, giving too much to a world that never gives anything back. You are tired of investing in indefinite outcomes. You’re tired of uncertainties. Tired of grey. I know you haven’t always been this worn out — that there was a time when you were hopeful and pure. When your optimism outweighed your cynicism and you had an infinite amount in you to give. I...

The Dangers of Double-Checking

Introduction: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Do you feel the need to check and re-check things over and over? Do you have the same thoughts constantly? Do you feel a very strong need to perform certain rituals repeatedly and feel like you have no control over what you are doing? If so, you may have a type of anxiety disorder called obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). What is OCD? Everyone double checks things sometimes. The thoughts and rituals associated with OCD cause distress and get in the way of daily life. The frequent upsetting thoughts are called obsessions. To try to control them, a person will feel an overwhelming urge to repeat certain rituals or behaviors called compulsions. People with OCD can't control these obsessions ...
